Trevor Owen-Thomas
|
Trevor Owen-Thomas is a Registered Incorporated Engineer with a background in marine engineering and holding a Combined Class 1 Certificate of Competency. He is also a Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology.
Trevor began his career as an engineer cadet with British India Steam Navigation Co Ltd. (then known as ¡°The B.I.¡±), performing his sea service with that company and eventually rising to the rank of Chief Engineer Officer. That provided him with invaluable
practical experience of the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of vessels including general cargo ships, refrigerated cargo carriers, oil and chemical tankers, container, passenger and LPG vessels.

After completing his sea service, Trevor came ashore and took his first position as a Fleet Superintendent with Acomarit, London. He was then invited to join Fairfield Maxwell Ltd as their Senior Engineer Superintendent prior to gaining the position of Technical Manager.
He subsequently moved to Seahorse Shipmanagement (ASP) Ltd., London, spending considerable time in China whilst working toward becoming General Manager.
In 2003, taking advantage of his vast experience of ship repair in China, Trevor joined a well known Hong Kong based consultancy company.
He started AMS Shanghai Ltd in 2004 as a Marine Consultancy Company in 2004 and speaks and has expertise in several foreign languages including Mandarin.
Trevor has gained invaluable insight, understanding and expertise of the large scale ship repair and shipbuilding industry generally in China during his time there.
He specialises in new builds, major hull and machinery repairs, although is able to impart expert advice on matters such as sale and purchase, speed and consumption and unseaworthiness. He has carried out numerous dry dockings, large scale repairs and conversion work in China.
Specialising in shipyard and new building contract disputes particular to latest CSR & PSPC Regs.
Recent assignments apart form normal routine survey work include the following.
¡¤An in-depth investigation into the sinking of a handy size bulk carrier whilst at a shipyard repair berth;
¡¤Project Managing on behalf of Greek Owners rejuvenation of a Panamax bulk carrier, requiring steel renewals of 980 tons at COSCO, Guangzhou Shipyard;
¡¤Project Manager for converting a single skin Chemical tanker to double skin; American Owners at COSCO, Nantong, (i.e. 1,100 tons steel);
¡¤Project Manager for converting a Ro-Ro to a car carrier at COSCO, Nantong, (involving 2,500 tones steel)
¡¤Specification and new build contract review for two super Panamax Bulk carriers. |
