Since leaving the sea
and in addition to the
above Tim has spent more
than eight years in a
marine survey and
consultancy role and has
worked for thee well
known UK survey firms,
one of these being his
own company which he
established in 2005.
Wishing to return to an
expatriate lifestyle Tim
joined us in December
2007. Prior to that he
had also spent more than
three years working from
Qatar and Dubai in both
a marine surveying and
pilotage role, the
latter mainly
specializing in
ship-to-ship crude oil
transfer operations
offshore as both pilot
and cargo transfer
superintendent.
Tim
began his seagoing
career as a deck cadet
with The New Zealand
Shipping Company at a
time when this company
was part of P&O. He
remained with this
company for his entire
sea-going career. Moving
from general cargo ships
to bulk carriers,
container ships, oil
tankers and latterly, in
LPGas tankers Tim rose
to the rank of Chief
Officer before coming
ashore for further
studies.
His past
marine survey work has
involved extensive
overseas work for
clients, primarily P&I
clubs, and frequently to
West Africa where
corruption is endemic,
and where the safe
collection of evidence
(for those inexperienced
in West Africa) is often
very difficult and
dangerous. He has also
reviewed port and
terminal operations for
oil majors with a view
to auditing port safety
for Owners and
Charterers, and
recommending
improvements. He has
also prepared many
reports of opinion for
clients in preparation
for trial as an expert
witness in safe port
cases. Cargo claims and
admiralty work have also
featured significantly
in his previous
instructions.
