Bruce Whitby M.I.Mar.E
|
Bruce Whitby¡¯s
background has
incorporated a
variety of roles in
both shipping and
offshore oil and gas
industries. In
addition he has
considerable
experience with
luxury motor yacht
deliveries as well
as aviation and
security industries.
Bruce holds a
variety of
professional
qualifications
including a current
marine engineer
class 1 certificate
of competency and a
commercial pilot¡¯s
licence.
Bruce started his
seagoing career with
Australian National
Line (A.N.L), later
becoming A.S.P. Ship
Management, sailing
on a variety of
vessels from
conventional bulk
carriers, self
unloading bulk
carriers,
refrigerated hold
container ships,
passenger ferry¡¯s to
products and crude
oil tankers. Leaving
to pursue
opportunities
overseas on products
/ chemical tankers
then high speed
catamarans he was
promoted to Chief
Engineer before
taking up shore
based roles as
Engineering Manager
then later
Operations Manager.

In Jan 2002, Bruce
took up a position
in offshore oil and
gas industry. He
spent almost 6 years
on various F.P.S.O.
installations as a
maintenance
specialist and
maintenance
supervisor. This
gave him hands on
experience not only
in maintenance but
also production
operations. He also
performed active
roles in training,
procedural
development and
review, internal &
external audits,
safety case reviews,
shutdown, docking
and abandonment
planning as well as
liaison with
classification
societies and
various government &
legislative bodies.
It was during this
time Bruce also
qualified as an
industrial
paramedic.
Through his various
positions Bruce has
had extensive
exposure to all
aspects of business
operations & heavy
engineering from
daily planned
maintenance to major
docking & conversion
projects and the
installation &
commissioning of new
or upgraded
equipment.
Bruce has been
intimately involved
with the
implementation,
operation and
auditing of risk
management, accident
& incident
investigation,
planned maintenance,
safety management
and quality
assurance systems
from inception to
end user stages.
In 2007, Bruce moved
to Ningbo, China to
work for Det Norkse
Veritas (DNV) as a
Senior Surveyor and
Lead Auditor
(ISM/ISPS). During
the past 3 years
Bruce has attended
vessels at the many
shipyards in the
Ningbo / Zhoushan
area that have given
him great insight
and experience in
ship repair and
conversion in China.
In addition to
attending numerous
class & statutory
surveys, ISM/ISPS
audits & PSC related
matters some of his
more recent major
projects have
included:
Repairs of heavy
lift vessel after
grounding. 2000 tons
steel.
Collision repair to
151,000 dwt bulk
carrier. 1500 tons
steel.
